The publication of this renowned Shri Kashi Vishwanath Panchang was started in the year 1862 by Pt. Rameshwar Dutt Upadhyay in the city of Varanasi (then Benares city). His son Pt. Hrishikesh Upadhyay added many subjects in the panchang to make it useful for all. After his name the panchang got its popular name that is HRISHIKESH PANCHANG.  In the year 1938 after his death his son Pt. Nagesh Upadhyay became the chief editor of this panchang. He was also the honorary city Magistrate of Benares city during the British Rule. After independence he also contested the lok sabha elections from the city of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on the ticket of Swami Karpatri ji Maharaj’s Party. In the year 1958 after his death his son Pt. Rambhadra Upadhyay became the chief editor of the panchang. He made the panchang very popular worldwide. Every year over 10 lakh copies of the panchang were sold worldwide. He had very close relations with the top politicians of the country such as former Prime Minister Smt. Indira Gandhi, former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh, Sri Madhavrao Scindia, and former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna, former Chief Minister of Maharashtra Vasantdada Patil and many more top politicians and personalities of that time. He also had good relations with the Former President and Prime Minister of Mauritius Sir Anerood Jugnauth.  Shankaracharya Swami Jayendra Saraswati Ji visited the house on the occasion of inauguration of New Year’s panchang in the year 1988.  Shankaracharya Swami Swaroopanand Ji Maharaj also visited the home on the occasion of the inauguration of the New Year’s panchang and first Birthday of his Grandson Pt. Vaibhav Upadhyay in 1995.  In the year 1998 due to his untimely death His Son Pt. Ajay Upadhyay started to carry on the business forward and became Editor in Chief.  He was also a well known personality like his father. He added many more usefull information in the panchang to make it more usefull for the people to read and understand. He also started the publication of Hrishikesh  Calendar and Hrishikesh Ten Years panchang . In the year 2016 the untimely death of Pt. Ajay Upadhyay caused heavy setbacks in the family. Now his Son Pt. Vaibhav Upadhyay became the Editor in Chief and carrying the generation-old business forward.
