The publication of this renowned Shri Kashi Vishwanath Panchang was started in the year 1862 by Pt. Rameshwar Dutt Upadhyay in the city of Varanasi (then Benares city). His son Pt. Hrishikesh Upadhyay added many subjects in the panchang to make it useful for all. After his name the panchang got its popular name that is HRISHIKESH PANCHANG. In the year 1938 after his death his son Pt. Nagesh Upadhyay became the chief editor of this panchang. He was also the honorary city Magistrate of Benares city during the British Rule. After independence he also contested the lok sabha elections from the city of Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh on the ticket of Swami Karpatri ji Maharaj’s Party.
